Projects, People, Promotions

‘Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.’ Gustave Flaubert

Traditional project management uses a Waterfall approach from the construction industry where things have to happen in a certain order, as you can’t raise a roof without foundations or walls.

Engineering and software development has created flexible, Agile systems, where projects are developed in short cycles or ‘sprints’ with feedback and iterations throughout. Regular stand-up meetings are held with cross-disciplinary teams where everyone shares what they did, what they are working on and if there is anything blocking their progress.

Issues can be dealt with as soon as they occur, and testing and feedback happen at every stage of the process. Each member of the team is responsible for their own work so there is less need for meetings, reports and producers.
