Space, Time, Money

‘Writing and travel broaden your ass if not your mind and I like to write standing up.’ Ernest Hemingway

In the early days friends, fools and family are most likely to support you financially. Funding bodies are more likely to back someone with a proven track record and applying for grants can be costly.

First there is the time and administration needed to apply and wait for a decision. Then if you are successful, you will be expected to spend time on administration and governance and may be limited in how you can use the money.

It may be better to start small and bootstrap through sales, or try a crowdfunding campaign to test the market and validate your idea. The Bootstrapper’s Bible by Seth Godin outlines how to start a business with a great idea and (almost) no money.
